Golf green tarping systems are widely used in the golf industry to cover greens over the winter months. However, increasingly warm fall temperatures extending through November now require our refinement of
the tarping procedure(s) to avoid turf loss by fall anoxia. This project will assess those relationships of light, temperature, and gas exchange as it relates to the turfgrass transition – AKA hardening process. Resulting data will provide turf managers information which can assist in weighing the comparative risks of covering unhardened greens, and apply/modify cover strategies to maximize turfgrass survivability.
